Fundraising to help build toilets in rural Uttar Pradesh, India

We are raising a campaign to construct toilets in a village "Sidhuapar" in a northern state of India "Uttar Pradesh". There are approximately 800 households in this village and as per latest record from the local government, only 80 houses have toilets. Rest all relieve themselves in open areas like road sides or farms.

There is a local government funding ("Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan") available to make toilets in each household but the fund is not enough to construct the toilet. As per our discussion with the local administrative bodies, each toilet costs around INR 20,000 (SGD 425) and government funding is INR 9,900 (SGD 193). Thus, the remaining money (SGD 232) need to be raised.

In April 2014, we took initiative to construct one toilet in the village with the help of village Pradhan (administrative officer at village level) and District Panchayat Raj Officer (administrative officer at district level). One family is now benefited by the initiative.

Below recent news article alarms the need for toilets in each household in India.

The objectives of this campaign are:

1. To raise fund to construct toilet for 50 rural households, with a target amount of SGD 11,600
2. To raise awareness for the importance of clean sanitation in rural areas of India.
World Toilet Day is celebrated on 19 November. Our target is to raise funds to construct toilets in at least 50 households in the village by 19th November 2014.

Thank you for joining us in this global movement to make our world a better place!
